Dental Occlusal-Night Guard
Bruxism is a condition when you clench or grind your teeth; this can be done during the day or at night while sleeping. In some people, it can become more frequent and severe, which leads to jaw disorders, headaches, damaged teeth, and other problems.
There are usually two main causes for teeth grinding and clenching.
Stress
Abnormal bite or missing teeth.
Why is it important to treat chronic teeth grinding
Fracturing, loosening or tooth loss
Affects your jaw muscles
TMD/TMJ may worsen
In severe cases, it can change the appearance of your face
Causes abfractions (notches in tooth roots near gum line)
Causes bone loss and gum recession
If you grind your teeth you should consider a night guard. A night guard is very similar to a mouth guard worn by athletes, however, much smaller. It provides a barrier between your top and bottom teeth while you sleep and helps relax the jaw muscles.
All night guards are custom fit for comfort and allow proper breathing. Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth and have the night guard created by a dental lab. Night guards are very durable and can be used for many years.
